You can slow down a voice memo on your iPhone by adjusting the playback options in the Voice Memos app (Apple Support). This process involves selecting a specific recording, tapping the Options button, and moving the slider toward the tortoise icon (Apple Support).

Accessing the Voice Memo Playback Settings

First, go to the Voice Memos app, which is located in the Utilities folder on your iPhone (Apple Support). Once you open the app, look at your list of recordings and tap the recording you want to play (Apple Support).

Next, tap the More button (Apple Support). Finding this menu allows you to adjust playback options, which you can use to change the playback speed, fill in silences, or reduce background noise (Apple Support).

Slowing Down the Audio Speed

To access the speed controls, tap the Options button (Apple Support). You can drag the slider toward the tortoise for a slower speed, or drag it toward the rabbit for a faster speed (Apple Support). As a practical suggestion, try making small adjustments to the slider to find the most comfortable listening pace for your family recording.

After setting the slider, tap the Done button, and then tap the Play button to play the recording (Apple Support).

Limits of Playback Adjustments

Changing these playback settings does not affect the recording itself (Apple Support). The speed setting you choose stays with that specific recording, and the modified speed is applied each time you play the recording (Apple Support). This adjustment does not apply to other recordings on your device (Apple Support).
